Glenroy-Daleside
Railway Bridge
Owner: Transnet, South Africa
Contractor: LTA
Consultant: Scott & de Waal Inc
Duncan Peters designed this four span continuous post-tensioned concrete box girder bridge which carries two tracks of the Glenroy Daleside line over National Route 3 between Johannesburg and Durban. The bridge is supported on percussion bored piles founded in karstic dolomite. In order to maintain traffic flow on the N3 the first two spans and portion of the third span were constructed, traffic was relocated, and then the remainder of the deck was constructed.
Duncan was design team leader for the seven rail carrying bridges and one road over rail bridge on the project.
